London, UK: December 2008 - the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC) is delighted to announce that Playseats will produce the official WRC race seat, designed to deliver the ultimate virtual driving experience and available from Q1 2009.

In a deal brokered by CPLG Sport, the WRC Playseat is a unique console accessory, which offers thrill-seeking fans a highly realistic experience of what is widely regarded as the most challenging motor sport competition in the world, which pits man and machine against some of the toughest conditions on the planet from the ice and snow of Scandinavia to the stifling heat of Greece and the dizzy altitudes of the Argentinian Andes.

Commenting on the deal, Dr Fernando Smit, President of Playseats says: “as one of the most popular formats for driving games, I am delighted to partner with the WRC FIA World Rally Championship to develop this bespoke WRC Playseat, which is designed to replicate the traditional style of a real rally seat, featuring a revised steering wheel position to allow rally fans to create the most realistic driving experience while playing their favourite racing game.”

Available to buy online, through distributors and the WRC merchandise store, the WRC Playseat can be used in conjunction with all popular games consoles, steering wheel and pedal sets, providing the ultimate professional simulator experience. Currently available in kit form, with extra lateral support, Playseat’s patented design makes it easy to put together, allowing each lightweight race seat to be fully adjusted in height, length and depth to accommodate WRC’s diverse range of fans, whatever their shape or size!

Established in 1973, the WRC now attracts a TV audience of over 816 million viewers with coverage in over 180 countries. All competing cars are based on current road-going manufacturer models such as the Ford Focus, Citroen C4 and Subaru Impreza but underneath the chassis are in fact turbocharged, four wheel drive monsters, which can accelerate from a standing start to 100kph in around three seconds, achieving top speeds of up to 220kph, regardless of conditions.
